Lemon Balm
Melissa officinalis
An ancient and much-revered medicinal plant of many virtues, Lemon Balm is one of our all-time favorites. It is easy to grow in abundance, delicious as a tea herb, and makes a delightful tincture as well.

Lemon Balm is a member of the mint family and has a distinct lemony flavor and aroma. It has a sour taste and cooling energy.
As for uses, where do we start? Lemon Balm has traditionally been applied to so many situations, it was known as an herbal cure-all, but probably the best known uses for Lemon Balm are as a nervine sedative and carminative digestive. It is also a relaxing diaphoretic.

One of the things we love about Lemon Balm is that it is not only relaxing to the nervous system, but it is simultaneously uplifting to the spirits.

We employ Lemon Balm ourselves almost daily as a tea or tincture. You can find it in our virtual Farm Stand as a key ingredient in our Herbal Sunshine Tea blend, in our Nervine Restorative tincture, and as a simple tincture.
